I am an educator. I am extremely passionate about what I get to do to help others got to their next place in life.

I recorded with Leah quite some time ago. Back in October. I needed her message so much. It was the encouragement and reminder that I desperately needed when going through a faith transition and trying to figure out myself again. I think that learning who you are is a life long process. You are constantly changing. You don’t stay the same throughout your whole life. So you are going to be constantly learning about yourself.

Which is quite a beautiful thing, really. There is, however, a deep down you that is always the same. It’s important to know that person. Know what that person enjoys, loves, and dislikes. Know what triggers that person, what scares that person, and what brings immense joy and comfort to that person. That person may change slightly with time, but usually not much. Take the time to know that person.

Leah is such a wise woman. Her advice to find a quiet place to sit down with yourself was so beautiful and amazing. And so perfectly right. If you are constantly rushing around being busy, you will never be able to get to know who you are. Your focus is elsewhere.

If you really want to get to know yourself and figure out what you want and what bring you joy, you have to put everything on pause. Let the dishes sit in the sink. Let the kids watch a movie. Let your spouse/partner take care of things for awhile. Take a night off of work. Whatever you need to do to sit alone for awhile, do it. Do. It.

When you finally allow yourself to sit and ponder without distractions, that’s when you will really make some progress.

I’m sure you’ve heard me talk about Empress Journal. I’m bringing it in again because it’s so applicable here. At the beginning of the journal, before you make any goals or anything, I encourage you to sit and write for 5-10 minutes about what brings you joy. You take a little bit of time to really think about what brings you joy and write it down. So much of the time we forget about what brings us joy. You don’t stop to think about it. Empress Journal has you do it. And then you write down something you are going to do throughout the week (ever week) to bring yourself joy.

That is so important. If you aren’t doing things that bring you joy, you are missing a huge part of life. You are supposed to be happy and joyful. If you aren’t doing what you love, you have no hope of being happy. So make sure you’re doing what you love and what brings you joy. If you don’t know what that is, or you’ve forgotten, take the time to figure that out again. You will thank yourself for it.

I would love for you to join the Scars We Share Facebook Group!
