JJ Hawkins

Transgender Man, Actor

Website: JJ Hawkins
Instagram: JJ Mohawk

JJ is a successful trans actor living it up in California. He is “a gender-non-conforming trans-masculine kid” and is “here to use my voice for those who can't.”

And boy oh boy is he right.

JJ and I met at BYU in the theatre program. I am seriously so, so grateful that I had the chance to meet him. He’s an amazing, fun, kind human and I count myself very lucky to know him.

I will admit to being a bit naive/ignorant when it comes to the transgender experience. It’s something I’ve never experienced or connected with, because I am a heterosexual, cisgender woman. Talking with JJ was so wonderful and eye-opening. Listening to others, really listening, can really open us up to more understanding and greater love.

JJ talks mostly about his transition—specifically his top surgery and how exactly he went down that road. He also talks about where he is now. He is a lovely person to talk with and his story is wonderful. If you’ve never heard anything or anyone talk about their transgender experience, you need to give this a listen.
